ANOMALOUS SEA CREATURE

ANOMALOUS SEA CREATURE
"And once I saw the sea—a boundless steamy expanse beyond the colossal stone piers of an enormous town of domes and arches. Great shapeless suggestions of shadow moved over it, and here and there its surface was vexed with anomalous spoutings."
H.P. Lovecraft, The Shadow Out Of Time

  1. Hmm...you take a fairly vague description and make from it something that looks like a mosasaur. Nice job on both the outre creatures as well as the more down-to-earth ones.

  2. Thanks!! I kinda had the idea that if the Yithians were on earth in prehistoric times than maybe whatever it was that was "spouting" would be an ancient relative of an ancient relative of whales? Does that make sense?

  3. Hm...the Yithians seemed to live in the Permian era,so seems a bit of an odd choice. Oddly enough I don't think there are any fossils of marine tetrapods in the permian. I guess it took a big extinction for land life to try returning to the ocean. Personally I'd have gone for some horrific pseudo-whale lungfish (did you know there are actual ocean fish that can only breathe air? strangest thing)
